RedState: There's a storm brewing across the country

Published in Blog on July 17, 2017 by Convention Of States Project

The following article was written by Teri Christoph and originally published on RedState.

Whilst the media is having a field day with the numerous antics currently playing out in DC, a movement toward a Convention of States is quietly playing out across the fruited plain. Last Friday, Missouri became the 12th state to adopt a resolution calling for a Convention of States.

SCR4 calls for “of a convention of the states for the limited purpose of proposing amendments to the U.S. Constitution that impose fiscal restraint on the federal government, limit the power and jurisdiction of the federal government, and limit the terms of office for federal officials and members of Congress.”

As Doug McElway notes over at Fox News, this is an option that has not been exercised since before the Constitution was signed.

With Republicans in full control of 32 state houses, supporters believe a convention is within reach. They say its agenda would form around a set of core principles. Among them:

*requiring a balanced budget

*reducing the federal regulatory burden on the states

*restoring state sovereignty by eliminating federal mandates and grants

*and allowing a two-thirds majority of the states to override Supreme Court decisions, federal laws and regulations.

A total of 34 states need to sign on in order for a Convention of States to happen, but the Convention of States Project was pleased enough with the progress to release a video marking the addition of Missouri.
