Looking Back, Moving Forward Jordan Sillars January 2, 2014 Anne Reiner We did so much in 2013, and 2014 promises even more success! As we look forward to a new year of progress, it is important to take a glance back at what has brought us to this point. The Convention of States Project was launched on August 7th, 2013. Michael Farris hired the first COS employee in early August, and six more full-time employees joined the team between August and November. Mid-September marked the appointment of the first COS state leaders. Over the next four months those leaders would be joined by many more, bringing the total to 63 state leaders. These state leaders got to work and now we have nationwide support from over 5,500 volunteers. COS has legislative sponsors in ten states, and three states have pre-filled our application: South Carolina, Virginia and Florida. Notable dates from 2013: August 7th ALEC: COS launched. August 29th: Michael Farris appears on Huckabee to promote COS. December 3rd: Virginia and South Carolina both pre-file the COS Project’s application. December 4th ALEC: COS hosts luncheon and Senator Ron Johnson endorses COS. December 10th: Florida pre-files the COS Project’s application. December 18th: Mark Meckler appears on the Glenn Beck show to promote COS. December 31st: 19,871 likes on Facebook. The progress of 2013 will propel us into 2014 with the momentum needed to accomplish our goal. We are ready to keep fighting in the New Year – will you join us?
