Joe Wolverton and the JBS - LOL

Published in Blog on July 17, 2017 by Convention Of States Project

LOL.

I’m not sure what else to say about the bizarre and irrational ramblings of Joe Wolverton, “J.D.”, of the John Birch Society and his attempt to demean the fantastic, conservative patriots fighting for an Article V Convention to limit the scope, power and jurisdiction of the federal government.   We’re getting emails about the post, and it’s being circulated like one of those bad Nigerian email scams.  While normally I would simply dismiss a bizarre rant by an unknown individual such as this, I want those fighting for a Convention of States to know we take their emails seriously.

While it’s impossible to take Joe’s post seriously, we do take it seriously when Article V supporters reach out.  The main concern we’ve heard is that people who haven’t had a chance to get informed about Article V might be misled by Joe’s post.  That’s a legitimate concern, so I’ll do my best in this short post to suppress my laughter (but not the mockery) and provide some perspective.

In summary, Joe wants all the incredible, brilliant and dedicated conservatives in the Article V movement to know that we’re just simpletons who’ve been duped by the radical left and the evil George Soros into supporting an Article V Convention of States to restrain the scope, power and jurisdiction of the federal government.  Really.  That’s his point.  We’re all just unwitting tools of the radical left.

Thank goodness we have Joe to point out just how stupid and silly we all are.  And just to clarify,  by “we,” I mean all the thousands of staunch conservative grassroots activists and state legislators currently involved in Article V efforts.  By “we” I also mean many notable constitutional scholars, lawyers, and thinkers like Prof. Rob Natelson (Independence Institute, Senior Fellow for Constitutional Studies), Prof. Randy Barnett (Georgetown University Law Center), Michael Farris (Founder – Home School Legal Defense Association / Founder and Chancellor – Patrick Henry College), David Barton (WallBuilders – Founder and President), Mark Levin, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Sen. Tom Coburn, Sen. Ron Johnson, Gov. Mike Huckabee and organizations like U.S. Term Limits and Citizens for Self-Governance (the organization behind ConventionOfStates.com).  And that’s just a small sampling.  It seems all these silly people supporting Article V efforts owe Joe a debt of gratitude for setting them straight.

Joe’s condescending and arrogant attitude towards all these great conservatives is both astounding and insulting.

On political matters, one is often faced with a choice of which camp to choose, even among those on the same ideological side.  In this case, liberty loving citizens can either choose to align with well-known conservative Constitutional scholars, educators, experienced Supreme Court litigators, and the leading media figures on the right, or Joe Wolverton and the John Birch Society.

Rational people who consider the facts and do the research will see the choice is obvious.  I encourage you to do your own research and read all the materials at ConventionOfStates.com.

I know from the many emails we’ve received regarding Joe Wolverton’s post that very few buy into the fringe element within the Birch Society who misread the undeniable factual history of our Constitution, Article V, and our Founders and claim our founding document was conceived, drafted and illegally adopted in a “runaway” convention.  But the concern that people like Joe and the JBS might mislead folks who haven’t had a chance to do the homework needs to be addressed.

The flat-earthers, naysayers, conspiracy theorists and those who fear the future always exist at the fringe, trying to thwart all important movements.  Their goal is often the status quo, and it’s usually based on fear of the unknown.  The Article V movement is no different.  And while the few Joe Wolverton’s of the world quake in fear at the idea of Americans actually using the tool the Founders intended we use in case the federal government ran amok (Article V), we’ll be moving forward, organizing and preparing for the historic Article V convention.

If you happen to meet Joe somewhere, please let him know that we won’t hold his fear against him.  And we don’t take it personally that he thinks the vast majority of liberty loving Constitutional patriots are just a bunch of simpletons.  Fear is a powerful emotion that can easily cloud one’s judgment, so we understand where he’s coming from, and we forgive him for the insult to all the great conservative patriots in the Article V movement.  In fact, if you do see Joe, please let him know, that as a Constitution loving patriot, we’d like to see him at the Convention.  Hopefully his state will see fit to send him as a delegate.
