Will our kids enjoy the same independence we do today?

Published in Blog on July 17, 2017 by Convention Of States Project

This Fourth of July, as you sit at the dinner table or the picnic table, enjoying your bar-be-que and looking forward to tonight’s fireworks, ask yourself, “What kind of America will my children grow up in?”

Senator Tom Coburn says his freedom is half of what it was when he was a young man. When your kids grow up, will they say the same? What kind of country are we leaving to our children and grandchildren?

If things continue as they are, the answer is bleak. The federal government will continue to centralize power until the state governments are nothing more than regional federal agencies.

Your children’s personal decisions will be dictated by a bureaucrat in Washington who doesn’t know them, their family, or their community.

Federal debt will cause taxes to skyrocket even as the faltering economy weakens national security.

For any parent who loves their children, that’s not the future they hope for.

Fortunately, this isn’t the future that has to be -- this Fourth of July, there’s way to ensure independence for generations to come.

An Article V Convention of States can propose constitutional amendments that limit the federal government’s ability to expand its power, spend your children’s money, and legislate from the bench.

The Founders included Article V in the Constitution for such a time as this. It’s the solution they would want us to use, and it’s time for us to do so.
