Victory in New Mexico and South Carolina

Published in Blog on July 17, 2017 by Convention Of States Project

New Mexico and South Carolina kept the good times rolling yesterday with solid victories in each state.

The grassroots carried the day in both states, but New Mexican citizens were able to take advantage of the new ONE CLICK tool to contact their state legislatures.

They answered the call to action, and their calls and emails were a huge part of the 34-27 win for HJR 19 in the New Mexico House.

But we're not done yet! HJR 19 still has to pass the New Mexico Senate to be counted towards the necessary 34 to call a Convention of States.

We encourage all our supporters in New Mexico to continue to contact their state senator and request their support of the Convention of States resolution.

In South Carolina, the Senate Judiciary Committee passed the Convention of States resolution by a 13-8 vote.

Our team in South Carolina has done an amazing job so far, balancing multiple committee hearings and calls to action as our resolution make its way through the House and the Senate simultaneously.

The next step for our resolution in the Senate is likely a vote on the Senate floor. Click here to contact your South Carolina state senator. Ask them specifically to bring S 198 up on Special Order.

In the House, the Judiciary Committee's subcommittee on Constitutional Law is hearing testimony on the Convention of States resolution this morning. Click here to contact the members of the Judiciary Committee.
