Texas resolution held up by Senator Estes

Calling all Convention of States Project supporters! Texas has an urgent call to action.

After 18 months of effort, the Texas Convention of States team earned a victory in the Texas House and secured a Senate committee hearing, which was slated for tomorrow. Then we found out this morning that Senator Craig Estes (SD-30) has “tagged” HJR 77, which means NO HEARING TOMORROW.

SENATOR CRAIG ESTES MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS DECISION.

Instead of letting us present the merits of HJR 77 in the hearing tomorrow, Senator Craig Estes has decided that the people of Texas do not get a voice on HJR 77. As a constituent, I can only interpret this to mean that Senator Estes is perfectly happy with the federal government the way it is: $18+ trillion in debt, $150+ trillion in unfunded liabilities; overspending; unprotected borders for Texas; Obamacare; NSA spying, EPA over-regulations and increasing federal taxes on small business and families.

By not allowing HJR 77 to get the hearing that your phone calls and emails secured this week, Senator Estes is also saying that he has no intention of supporting the U.S. Constitution as the legal recourse and remedy to stop the runaway federal government.

We must communicate to Senator Estes that we deserve the right to succeed or fail on the merits of the resolution we’re presenting.

BE NICE AND RESPECTFUL. WE KNOW OUR OPPOSITION HAS BEEN MEAN-SPIRITED AND HAS RESORTED TO SPREADING MISINFORMATON. Convention of States volunteers never do that.

KEEP IT SIMPLE: here's a sample script for phone and email:

"I am {your name} and I am calling to ask Senator Estes to remove the TAG on HJR 77. Thousands of grassroots activists have spent hours of their own time and money traveling around Texas educating legislators and citizens as to the power of Article V. HJR 77 should be given a fair shot to succeed or fail at a hearing. Senator Estes' actions are totally unacceptable—quite unbecoming of someone who claims to be a representative of the people. Please have Senator Estes remove the tag immediately so we can get HJR 77 a hearing tomorrow."

 1) CALL SENATOR CRAIG ESTES: t: 512-463-0130

 2) EMAIL SENATOR CRAIG ESTES: e: craig.estes@senate.state.tx.us
