Two hundred and thirty-six years ago, an argument about what Liberty should look like took place in what was then the Pennsylvania State House. This summer-long debate in Philadelphia would eventually be dubbed the "Constitutional Convention", and the Pennsylvania State House would be renamed Independence Hall.
This summer, just a few city blocks from that monument, the 2023 MOMS For LIBERTY National Summit occurred. What started as a small group of women in Florida determined to oppose the onslaught of progressive ideology in public schools has bloomed into a vibrant and growing national movement.
MOMS for LIBERTY has become so influential that it has been targeted by several leftist organizations, and street protests persisted throughout the Summit’s duration. It seems the modern form of that 1787 summer debate continues. Instead of delegates in a stuffy assembly hall, passionately articulating the finer points of republicanism and federalism, it is moms and dads collaborating on how to protect their children from illicit materials in school libraries and re-introducing classical curriculum in the classroom.
Perhaps every generation is destined to wrestle with the question of what Liberty is. For over a decade, Convention of States Action volunteers and supporters have stood behind that cultural lectern, sentinels for Liberty as intended by God. With the emergence of MOMS For LIBERTY, COSA is happy to finally have company.
Convention of States Action was honored to be a sponsor for this year’s MOMS For LIBERTY National Summit and stand alongside this important burgeoning organization. Indeed, many Summit attendees, often serving as new chapter chairs, co-chairs, and even school board candidates, already have a history with Convention of States Action. For anyone involved with COSA, this is no surprise. COSA has been training and engaging self-governing citizens for just this occasion.
But the question remains, will we let Liberty be redefined? Or will we re-establish the eternal truths of Liberty as granted to us through our Creator? It is a debate we cannot shy away from and a debate we must win. Fortunately, fellow liberty-loving advocates are joining COSA behind the podium, and they happen to be Moms.
