In early April, we invited you to participate in an exciting project to help select the name and image of a new character that will represent the COS texting program in this election year and beyond.
In the first phase of this project, you submitted a slew of creative names for our character, which is based upon great figures in U.S. history and inspired by the iconic image of “Rosie the Riveter”.
Some of those names include Esther the Texter (named after Esther Reed, who established a relief society for the Continental Army), Liberty Belle, and Thomas the Texter!
We are truly grateful for all of the creative ideas that have been received. Now we’d like you to help us out on the next important step – the character’s image.
Various eye-catching images have been generated that showcase various historic figures that combine period dress with contemporary style. Which do you think will best represent the mission of COS in general and the texting program in particular?
Voting for the character’s image opens up on May 1, 2024. [LINK/SUBMIT BUTTON] Once the votes are tallied over the course of May, we will announce the name and image of our texting character in June.
The inspiration for our character is drawn from the indelible image of Rosie the Riveter.
As you know, Rosie symbolized American women who manufactured munitions and other war materials in factories and shipyards across the U.S. during World War II. The concept originated with the smash hit song "Rosie the Riveter" that was composed in 1942 by songwriters Redd Evans and John Jacob Loeb.
The "We Can Do It" slogan signified in part that all Americans -- no matter their role or station -- could and would devote themselves to victory over tyranny, a theme that resonates and inspires within the COS movement.
We hope that you are excited about the creation of our own American icon who, in the spirit of Rosie, will symbolize our efforts to engage and inspire calls to action via your texts in the coming months of this crucial election year when so much is at stake.
Have fun looking through the proposed images and get your vote in once you land on a favorite!
