Louisiana committee to hear Convention of States resolution

Published in Blog on July 17, 2017 by Convention Of States Project

First of all, thank you for your many phone calls and emails last week. We received responses from some Senators and it made them aware of the fact that HCR2 has been intentionally assigned to the wrong committee. Despite our best efforts however, we have been scheduled for a committee hearing in Judiciary B next Tuesday June 2nd at 10:30am in Room E.

Let's be clear, this is still not the right committee. We are supposed to be in Senate and Governmental Affairs, not Judiciary B. However given the circumstances, we must move forward with where we are in the process. This doesn't mean we are giving up. We must push forward as hard as we can to let the members of Judiciary B know that this is NOT the right committee and that HCR2 needs to be passed so it can move onto the floor of the Senate for a vote. That is why I need YOU right now.

We need supporters at the committee meeting on Tuesday. We need to show the committee that there are a lot of people in Louisiana that care about this issue. I would ask that you sign a "green card" when you get there so the committee can record your support in the record. Don't worry, we will have members of the Convention of States team there to testify so there will be no need for anyone to testify. All we would like for you to do is show up and fill out a green card and show your support for HCR2.

I also need you to CALL AND EMAIL the Senators on Judiciary B and tell them to PASS HCR2. Here is an example of what you can say:

Hi my name is [your name]. I am a resident and voter of the State of Louisiana and a supporter of HCR2, the Convention of States resolution. I believe that at an Article V Convention of States is the ONLY way to stop federal overreach and to restore our U.S. Constitution. HCR2 has also been improperly assigned to the Judiciary B Committee. It belongs in the Senate and Governmental Affairs Committee. This was intentionally done by some members of the Senate so they could try to stop HCR2 in it's tracks. As a member of Judiciary B, I would hope that you do the right thing Senator [name] and pass HCR2 so this resolution can go to the Senate floor. Thank you for your time.

Note: Please "bcc" or "cc" me in any emails you send out. And please forward to me any responses you get from any of the committee members. Thank you.

There were times when our Founders thought the War for Independence was lost. This did not deter them from their objective though. We must not be deterred from ours either. Just because things have not gone the way we planned, doesn't mean all is lost. We must stand strong and continue to fight for our Constitution and our freedoms. You made a difference in the House and because of that we passed by an overwhelming margin. We can do the same in the Senate. Only it's going to take a little more effort than what we originally thought. Thank you for continuing to stand with me in our fight to restore our Constitution. You are a tremendous patriot.
